Allegra (Fexofenadine) is an antihistamine that mitigates the effects of histamine, a natural chemical in the body. Histamine can lead to symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and a runny nose. Allegra is utilized to alleviate seasonal allergy symptoms (hay fever) in both adults and children. Additionally, Allegra treats skin itching and hives resulting from a condition known as chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children.
Certain fruit juices and some antacids can hinder your body's ability to absorb Allegra. It is recommended to take the disintegrating tablet on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. There may be other medications that could interact with Allegra. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Avoid starting any new medications without consulting your doctor.
Discontinue the use of Allegra and seek immediate medical assistance if you suspect an overdose or experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Take Allegra precisely as instructed on the label or as directed by your physician. Do not take larger or smaller amounts or use it for a longer duration than recommended.
For the regular tablet, take it with a full glass of water. Avoid using any other liquid. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before measuring a dose. To ensure you receive the correct dose, use a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup instead of a regular tablespoon. If you don’t have a dosing device, request one from your pharmacist.
In case of an allergic reaction to Allegra, seek emergency medical help if you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using Allegra and contact your doctor if you develop fever, chills, body aches, cough, or any other flu-like symptoms.
